Fans praised the Cleveland Browns for their bowling-themed 2024 schedule announcement video, but the team is now being accused of stealing.

Cael Schwartz, who oversees Mugsy Jeans’ growth and brand, took to X and pointed out parallels between a previous year’s commercial and the video announcing the Browns’ schedule release. Schwartz specifically cited the two videos starring Pete Weber, the legendary professional bowler. The Browns ad featured several scenes that strikingly resembled those in the jeans commercial, even down to the fact that it was shot at the same bowling lane.

There are a lot of variations between the Mugsy commercial and the Browns’ schedule announcement video during their whole history. Weber is the star of the Mugsy commercial, but the Browns video mostly features the players of the team, with a brief appearance from the bowling icon at the conclusion.

On the other hand, it would be difficult to contend that the Browns, for Weber’s appearance, didn’t at the very least take influence from the Mugsy commercial when compared side by side. I play a lawyer on a sports media website, so I’m not an expert in law, but it seems like this will probably be resolved before going to court.
