To address the depth at safety, the Bills signed a five-year veteran with strong ball-hawking abilities.
Dee Delaney, a former safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has agreed to a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills. Wide receiver Quintez Cephus, who signed with the Bills the day after the draft, was later released as a result of Delaney’s signing on Thursday morning.
With this action, One Bills Drive is demonstrating their ongoing commitment to strengthening every aspect of their team as the offseason progresses.
The 29-year-old former Citadel standout who was not selected in the draft has played for three different teams in five seasons: the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Washington Commanders, and most recently, the Buccaneers.
In two seasons, with Jacksonville in 2018 and Washington in 2019, Delaney played in just three games overall and produced no stats. Nevertheless, throughout the previous three seasons with Tampa Bay, Delaney did show off his ball-hawking abilities. In 49 games, he recorded 71 tackles, 7 pass deflections, and 3 interceptions.
Buffalo undoubtedly needs more depth at safety, and Delaney will probably compete with Damar Hamlin for the last roster slot. The safety room is anticipated to be led by rookie second-round pick Cole Bishop, safety Taylor Rapp, and Mike Edwards in terms of performance and snaps.
