This offseason, the Chicago Cubs lost out on a number of free agent targets. Their attention has returned to Cody Bellinger now that it has passed.
Bellinger rejuvenated his career with the Cubs during the 2023 season. The former MVP had been in poor condition for a few years before his time in Chicago, where he found his form again. Bellinger may have landed a big contract in 2023 even though he hasn’t exactly lived up to his 47 home run season from 2019, the year he won MVP.
With 26 home runs, the 28-year-old slashed.307/.356/.525. The Cubs couldn’t find a replacement for him, so losing him would be a problem. He was a mainstay in the lineup.
