Wednesday night against the Connecticut Sun, the second-place team in the league, will be Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever’s quest for their second straight victory and their fourth in five games. At 18.0 points per game through 30 games, Clark ranks second on the team in that category.
In terms of assists, she leads the league as well. However, Christie Sides, the coach of the Fever, has observed that she occasionally passes the ball excessively. Before the Fever vs. Sun game, Sides spoke about her rookie’s dearth of shots in the fourth and made it apparent what she wants Clark to work on. “I love the fact that she is a playmaker first,” Sides stated.

“Especially during the fourth quarter of that Atlanta game, we’ve talked a lot over the past 24 hours about a number of shots she needs to take but wasn’t.
And she gave her consent.” Clark only made two shots in the fourth quarter of Indiana’s previous game against the Atlanta Dream, and Sides wasn’t impressed with her lack of effort.
“With her ankle.. she didn’t feel comfortable at times,” Sides continued. “But those are shots that she needs to take for us in that fourth quarter.”

In the first quarter of the game versus the Dream, Clark rolled her ankle. Though the injury may have contributed to some hesitancy in the closing minutes, she made a comeback at the beginning of the second quarter.
After the Olympic break, Clark’s final scoring total in the game versus Atlanta was her lowest since then: 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists.
Even though this August night was Clark’s worst shooting performance, her final point total was still higher than her season average.
Clark is as capable of a scorer as anybody in the league. During her career with the Iowa Hawkeyes, she broke Pete Maravich’s all-time NCAA scoring record. If she shoots more in the fourth and her shots are falling, the Fever will be a dangerous upset threat in the playoffs.
