- Ex-Huskeri player who’d bilked Tom Osborne dies
LINCOLN (AP) — A former Nebraska football player who gained notoriety years later when he was convicted of bilking a restaurant and his former coach, Tom Osborne, has died.
Lynn Finney was 57 and had been diagnosed with cancer three years ago. Darlene Howsden, with Metcalf Funeral Home, confirmed that Finney died Feb. 1 in Milford.
His sister, Sheila Perry, told the Lincoln Journal Star that her brother was a good person whom drugs took down the wrong path.
Finney was a Nebraska linebacker for two years starting in 1972.
In September 2008, Finney was given 20-to-36 months in prison for theft. Authorities say he reused a check that Osborne had given him for medicine. The check had been canceled and given back to Finn
