The 1991 VN Group A Touring Car is more than just a car; it’s a symbol of Australian racing excellence and Peter Brock’s enduring legacy,” said Mr. Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer for Lloyds Auctions. Brock, a nine-time Bathurst 1000 winner, is an icon of Australian motorsport, and his cars are highly sought-after by collectors.

The VN Commodore, built by Perkins Engineering, made its debut at Sandown in Round 1 of the 1991 Australian Touring Car Championship. It is a testament to the golden age of Australian touring car racing, when the sport was at its peak in terms of popularity and competition.

Alongside the race car, Lloyds is also auctioning a rare 1990 HSV VN SS Group A Commodore, build number 129 of only 302 ever made. This car, in factory original condition, represents the homologation special built for racing under Group A regulations, and it is a highly desirable collector’s item in its own right.

  1. “Not only do we have the race car but the road car as well which is an extremely unique opportunity for someone to own the motor racing version of the Group A Commodores alongside the limited build road car and have them sit side by side in their living room, mancave or garage!” Mr. Hames enthused.

The auction is expected to attract significant interest from collectors, motorsport enthusiasts, and investors alike. The 1990 HSV VN SS Group A Commodore, with a showroom floor price of just over $30,000 when new, is now estimated to be worth seven times that amount. The Brock VN Commodore, with its unique history and provenance, is likely to command an even higher price.

The auction will take place this Saturday, August 31st, at Lloyds Auctions’ live classic car auction event, closing from 12pm. Over 200 other classic cars, ranging from Australian, European and American marques, will also be going under the hammer.
