It’s flip season for college football recruiting and while this could be a good thing for the Tennessee Vols and head coach Josh Heupel, there’s also some major concern currently in Knoxville. That’s because over the weekend, 5-star offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. took a surprise visit to Ohio State.

Sanders has been committed to the Volunteers for a while now, but Ohio State is making a late push to try and land his signature on Dec. 4 when the Early Signing Period opens up. As it stands, it seems like he’s torn on what to do. On3’s Steve Wiltfong provided an update, and a source told him that things may actually be trending in Ryan Day’s direction. This would be a major blow for Heupel’s 2025 class:

This would be a major blow for Heupel’s 2025 class:

Tennessee Vols could end up losing 5-star OT commit David Sanders Jr. to Ohio State

“Talking to several people with knowledge of the recruitment, this visit started to get legs on Wednesday. He is on campus at Ohio State this weekend. He could stay into Monday. There’s going to be a lot of dialogue and a lot of opportunity for Ohio State to make a move on Tennessee.”

The Buckeyes continue to look like one of the best teams in the country and getting Sanders in town for their College GameDay win over Indiana was a big win for Day and his staff. Sanders is ranked the No. 1 OT in the country and for good reason: he’s a total baller.

Tennessee fans everywhere are excited about what he’ll be able to get done at the next level, but who knows if he’ll be Knoxville-bound or not. A week ago, it felt like a lock that he was going to be playing for the Vols, but now the Buckeyes are giving him a lot to think about. This is bad news all around for Heupel, who will now be fighting to try and keep his prized commit for ’25 on board.
