MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin released its spring football roster on Monday. One notable player left off that roster, freshman tight end Rob Booker.
The Waunakee native informed Badger247 that he has medically retired from football. Booker does plan to stay involved with the team in some role. According to Booker, it was head injuries and neurological issues that forced him to step away from the game.
A former three-star recruit, Booker originally committed to the Badgers in January of 2024. However, a few months later, he flipped to UCLA. UW then got Booker back at the start of the early signing period. Coming out of high school, Booker was the nation’s No. 35 ranked tight end in the class of 20
24.
Booker did not appear in any games for UW last season. The Badgers are expected to rely heavily on Ball State transfer Tanner Koziol and junior Tucker Ashcraft at tight end. Senior Jackson Acker has also moved from running back to tight end as well.
UW opens up spring practice on Thursday, Mar. 13.
