Breaking:Amid Quarter Battle Management Suspends Two Elite Alabama Quarter Back For Bridging This Rule..

The Alabama Crimson Tide haven’t named a starting quarterback yet for the 2025 college football season, but ESPN thinks they know how Bama’s quarterback battle will play out.

On Thursday, ESPN named each top 25 team’s most likely “breakout player”. And they went with redshirt junior quarterback Ty Simpson for Alabama.

Simpson is currently battling true freshman Keelon Russell and transfer Austin Mack for the starting quarterback job.

From ESPN: There will be some intrigue this spring surrounding the quarterback battle at Alabama, especially with Ryan Grubb coming in as offensive coordinator.

The Crimson Tide brought in five-star freshman Keelon Russell, and talented Austin Mack followed Kalen DeBoer to Alabama from Washington last year. But it’s Simpson’s time now after backing up Jalen Milroe the past two seasons. The Alabama staff really liked the way Simpson competed last preseason and last spring, and he wasn’t too far behind Milroe.

While not as dynamic an athlete as Milroe, Simpson is still plenty athletic and more consistent throwing the ball. This is Simpson’s fourth year on campus, and though he hasn’t played much, he’s a good fit for what Grubb and DeBoer want to do on offense.

Despite the fact that ESPN seemingly believes that Simpson will be the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback in 2025, this is a battle that’s still wide open.

In fact, On3’s Pete Nakos reported this week that Mack is a “serious contender” to win the job. Nakos also reported that Alabama would prefer to keep the quarterback competition open through August. That means a starting quarterback probably won’t be named for a while in Tuscaloosa.

Simpson is certainly in the mix to win the job, but it sounds like this battle is far from over — even though ESPN thinks that Simpson will eventually be the last man standing.
