Those wins proved especially vital in postseason rankings — the Irish, Bulldogs and Volunteers all look like locks to gain entry into college football’s most exclusive club.

The same couldn’t be said for Miami, which suffered a heart-wrenching 42-38 defeat to Syracuse. The defeat proved costly on multiple levels for the Hurricanes. Firstly, it prevented them from taking part in the ACC championship game. Secondly, it knocked them into CFP purgatory — even if it doesn’t look like it at first glance.
