Four-star safety Lagonza Hayward decommits from Tennessee football
Safety Lagonza Hayward, the second-highest-rated prospect in Tennessee’s 2025 recruiting class, has decommitted from the Vols just three days before the early signing period starts.
Hayward had been committed to Tennessee since July 27. But on Sunday, he announced his decommitment on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Thankful for #volnation and coaches for support and the trust they put in me but I have prayed on it for a long time so respect my decision but I will be decommitting from the University of Tennessee,” Hayward posted.
Hayward is a four-star prospect with the second-highest rating, according to 247Sports Composite, among UT’s commitments. He is ranked as the No. 9 safety and No. 72 prospect overall in the 2025 class.
Hayward is from Toombs County High in Lyons, Georgia. He initially committed to Tennessee over Georgia and Florida.
Tennessee still has 24 commitments in its 2025 class, which is set to sign on Wednesday.
The class is led by five-star offensive tackle David Sanders. He joins four-star recruits in wide receiver Travis Smith Jr., quarterback George MacIntyre, defensive lineman Mariyon Dye, tight end Da’Saahn Brame, linebacker Jaedon Harmon, defensive lineman Ethan Utley, linebacker Christian Gass, wide receiver Radarious Jackson, offensive lineman Nic Moore, edge rusher Jayden Loftin, cornerback Onis Konanbanny, tight end Jack Van Dorselaer and defensive lineman Charles House.
The Vols also are bringing in three-star recruits in offensive tackle Antoni Kade Ogumoro, safety Sidney Walton, cornerback Tre Poteat, wide receiver Joakim Dodson, linebacker Brenden Anes, defensive lineman Darrion Smith, running back Justin Baker, running back Daune Morris, cornerback Tyler Redmond and cornerback Dylan Lewis.
