this season, the Tigers have tabbed ACC weekly honors as newcomer Viktor Markov has been named Freshman of the Week and Noa Vukadin and Max Smith were crowned Doubles Team of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Clemson, who has been ranked the highest so far this season at No. 16 in the ITA Rankings, is coming off two historic wins as they swept North Carolina and secured a 4-2 victory over then-ranked No. 11 Duke.
ACC Freshman of the Week – Viktor Markov
Shining bright on the weekend was Markov as the freshman was the one to clinch both matches for the Tigers. Against the Tar Heels, Markov took down the No. 123 player in the nation, Anthony Wright 7-5, 6-4.
Against Duke, the Tigers took an early 1-0 lead but the Blue Devils responded with two singles wins and tied everything up at 2-2. Clinching the win for Clemson was Markov as he secured a massive comeback victory over Andreja Petrovic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
ACC Doubles Team of the Week – Noa Vukadin and Max Smith
The pairing of Vukadin and Smith, who were just ranked No. 31 in doubles, dominated over the weekend as they clinched the doubles point for Clemson over UNC and helped win the point over Duke. Against the Tar Heels, the pairing took on UNC’s Vladislav Melnic and Patrick Schoen and took the 6-4 win to clinch the point.
Against Duke, the duo faced off against then-ranked No. 30 Theo Winegar and Pedro Rodenas and secured a 6-3 win on court one to help the Tigers eventually take the 1-0 lead over the Blue Devils.
