Texas Transfer RB Savion Red Commits to Nevada
Former Texas Longhorns running back Savion Red has transferred to the Nevada Wolfpack, joining new head coach Jeff Choate, who previously served as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for Steve Sarkisian at Texas.
Red, a 5’10, 240-pounder, left the Texas program after spring practice with two years of eligibility remaining. A three-star prospect from Grand Prairie, Red was ranked as the No. 1,414 player nationally and the No. 107 athlete in the 2022 recruiting class by 247Sports Composite rankings. He switched his commitment from SMU to Texas in late 2021 and signed on Early Signing Day over offers from Kansas and Mississippi Valley State.
In high school, Red played multiple positions—quarterback, running back, and wide receiver—earning District 8-6A MVP honors in 2021. He passed for 857 yards and seven touchdowns, rushed for 1,367 yards and 20 touchdowns, caught 10 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown, and contributed on special teams.
