Gainesville, FL – In a move that brings a familiar name back to the Swamp, Steve Spurrier Jr., son of legendary coach Steve Spurrier, has joined the University of Florida football program in a support staff capacity. This development marks a return to the roots of his coaching career, as he began as a graduate assistant under his father at Florida in the 1990s.

Spurrier Jr. brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Gators, having spent over 30 years in the profession. His career has spanned both college and professional football, including stints in the NFL and various roles at prominent universities.

Most recently, Spurrier Jr. served as associate head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks/running backs coach at Tulsa. His extensive background includes coaching wide receivers at Mississippi State, Washington State, and in the NFL with Washington. He also held positions at Western Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Arizona.

This return to Florida signifies a homecoming for Spurrier Jr., where he will contribute his expertise to head coach Billy Napier’s staff. His diverse coaching background, encompassing offensive coordination, quarterback development, and wide receiver instruction, will be a valuable asset to the Gators’ program.

“We are excited to welcome Steve Spurrier Jr. back to the University of Florida,” said a representative from the Florida Gators athletic department. “His extensive coaching experience and knowledge of the game will be a significant asset to our program.”

It is important to note that Steve Spurrier Sr. has taken on ambassador roles for the university of Florida. So he is still very much involved with the Gators program, just in a different

capacity.
