Gordon Gets the Bag: Chicago’s Rising Star Cornerback Signs $40M Deal to Become Highest-Paid Slot Defender in NFL History..

The Chicago Bears have officially locked down one of their defensive cornerstones for the long haul, signing cornerback Kyler Gordon to a three-year, $40 million contract extension, with $31.25 million guaranteed. The deal, announced Monday, makes Gordon the highest-paid slot cornerback in NFL history, solidifying his role as a key part of Chicago’s defensive future.

Gordon, a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Washington, has quickly developed into a dynamic and versatile defender for the Bears. Through just 42 games, he has racked up 207 tackles, five interceptions, 11 passes defended, and countless key plays that don’t always show up on the stat sheet. His instincts, toughness, and ability to play inside and outside have made him a vital asset in an increasingly pass-heavy league.

“This is more than just a contract—it’s a reflection of the hard work and commitment Kyler brings to this team every day,” said new head coach Ben Johnson, who praised Gordon’s leadership and on-field IQ. “He’s a player we believe in, and this deal shows that.”

The extension arrives at a pivotal time for the Bears, who are building momentum behind No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams and a retooled coaching staff. With the addition of young offensive talent and continued investment in the defense, Chicago is positioning itself to compete in the NFC North after years of rebuilding.

For Gordon, the deal is a major milestone—both financially and symbolically.

“To be recognized like this by an organization I love playing for means everything,” Gordon said in a team release. “I’m just getting started.”

Slot cornerbacks have often been undervalued in contract negotiations, but Gordon’s deal may help shift that narrative. His extension not only resets the market but also raises expectations for what the slot position can mean in a modern defensive scheme.

As the Bears look ahead to the 2025 season, the message is clear: the team is committed to keeping its young stars in place and rewarding performance with top-tier compensation. With Kyler Gordon now locked in, Chicago’s secondary looks primed to make noise—and maybe some history—this fall.
