Samsung One UI 6.0: Will Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy S20 get Android 14 update?

Yesterday, Samsung started the official rollout of the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update. The new software hit the Galaxy S23 first and is expected to come to more high-end smartphones first before rolling out to mid-range and entry-level devices. The company unveiled new camera and gallery-related One UI 6.0 features in its article and mentioned the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy S20 in that post. So, will these devices get the Android 14 update?

No, Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy S20 won’t get Android 14 update.

Although Samsung mentioned the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy S20 in its One UI 6-related article on its website, those devices won’t get the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update. Instead, they will only get some Galaxy Enhance-X features. In the footnotes of the article, Samsung mentioned that Galaxy Enhance-X features it mentioned in the article will come to devices running One UI 6.0 (or above), including the Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy Note 20. However, that was most likely a mistake on Samsung’s part when it came to the wording of the sentence mentioned below:

Available on Galaxy S23 series, S22 series, S21 series, S20 series, Note20 series, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, Z Fold4, Z Flip4, Z Fold3, Z Flip3, Z Fold2, Z Flip 5G and Z Flip LTE, A54, and A53 devices operating on One UI 6.0 or above.

What are Galaxy Enhance-X features?

Galaxy Enhance-X features are a set of new camera and gallery-related features that Samsung introduced with One UI 6.0. Some of these features are:

  • Auto Frame: Automatically adjusts the camera angle and zoom level to keep everyone in the frame during video calls or group selfies.
  • Object Eraser: Easily removes unwanted objects from your photos with a simple tap.
  • Magic Canvas: Transforms your photos into artistic paintings with various styles and effects.
  • Video Collage: Creates fun and creative videos by combining multiple clips with different layouts and transitions.
  • AI Highlight Reel: Automatically selects the best moments from your videos and creates a highlight reel with music and effects.

Why won’t the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy S20 get an Android 14 update?

Samsung only promised three major Android OS updates when it launched the Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy Note 20 back in 2020. Since those devices came with Android 10 pre-installed, they received three updates: Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13. While Samsung improved its software update support to four years of Android OS updates with the Galaxy S21 series, the same wasn’t announced for the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy S20.

So, don’t get your hopes high about getting the official Android 14 update for your Galaxy Note 20 or Galaxy S20 series smartphone. We will reach out to Samsung for further clarification on this matter, so stay tuned to this article and our website.
